Compliance and Certification

Why It Matters

Interoperability and serviceability are only as strong as the standards behind them. OpenSFF provides a foundation for interoperability across vendors, with an emphasis on longevity and sustainability. Our next step is building a transparent compliance and certification process that vendors and users can rely on for true interoperability.

OpenSFF compliance will be available in two tiers, giving vendors a clear path from initial adoption to full certification:

    OpenSFF-Compatible

    What it Means:

A product is designed to meet the OpenSFF specification. Vendors self-declare compatibility by following the published mechanical, electrical, and interface guidelines.

  • Ensures interoperability with other OpenSFF-compatible products.

  • Signals intent to follow the open standard.

  • Ideal for early adopters, prototypes, and rapid market entry.

    OpenSFF-Certified

    What it Means:

Certification is the formal process where products are tested and validated against the specification by the OpenSFF community or a designated certification body.

  • Verified compliance with mechanical, electrical, and airflow standards.

  • Eligibility to use the official OpenSFF-Certified mark.

  • Offers buyers, integrators, and IT teams confidence in interoperability and reliability.

  • Demonstrates long-term commitment to openness and sustainability.
